Parade of Elephants

I have been very busy for the past few weeks, but in my free time (what  am I even SAYING that for!) I have been putting together these little elephants. The one that went to auction, I hear, did well and is awaiting the birth of his new owner. (How exciting!) It has become a type of therapy for me to whip these little guys up. I am in the works of getting some display areas around my little town. Since I am new to blogging, I figure I should get this all squared away before I jump on Etsy. What a wonderful world we live in, huh? How did our parents ever survive with out these modern outlets!? My little man and I made a trip to Joanns today and I found some wonderful new fabrics to work with! Can't wait to get started! OH! Last weekend, the hubby came home and decided we 'needed' a new toilet. (smile smile smile) So, I gently suggested he could fix that awful bathroom floor too, ya know, since the toilet will be out of the way....Yea! What a great job he did and while he was away this week, I repainted, scrubbed and redecorated the whole bathroom. Next trip to the mall shall yeild new towels and rugs. Can't wait to post pictures of it when I get the finishing touches. Take care,

Love, Emily

Is it Spring-y yet?!

Yea! The weather in our parts is thawing and the past few days have been BeAuTiFuL! Even on a cloudy and overcast-type-of-day, the lack of snow and wind is a welcoming of Spring to me. I have been tending to the 'bigger issues' of my life the past week or so, and I am happy to report, things are getting better. The Lenten season is a time to clear out the clutter between ourselves and God. That is what I am doing. Although it started as STRESS-filled and pain-filled, it is now a calming and soothing process. I know this is bigger than ME and I must turn it over to God. Yea God!

I did want to share a really super easy project with you. I was in need of a small shelf above my stove and I also wanted easy access to a few utensils. So, I took stock in my 'leftovers' and this is what I came up with. I painted the old wooden shelf red, a discarded cafe rod was painted black, and 'retired' forks were bent and their tines curled to hold my utensils. Mug hooks, screwed into the wood shelf on the under side, hold the cafe rod. It works great, looks unique and I have yet to see it in anyone elses home. Originality, aye?
Also, I wanted to share because you can see my 1950's fan switch there in the middle and the bottom of the fan grill at the top of the picture. We live in a "work in process" house and while all things are not perfect, our home is perfect for us! I love taking the time to do little projects that make a difference. My next meandering is turning toward our downstairs bathroom. The yucky 'sticky tile floor' needs replaced, but I want to do the ceramic tile myself. The hubby is not so sure about that, and we cannot possibly work together on that, so we will see. I hope you are enjoying your family, friends, health and home. Take care, Emily

Busy Bee

A lot has been happening in our house, especially over this past week. Not all 'good' I am afraid, but through the grace of God, we seem to be coming through just fine! Have you ever been in a situation where you just could not see how you would get through it? I was there last Friday. All I had was prayer. Thankfully, God is answering my call and He is guiding me through! I am learning so much about myself. I have always been an impatient person, and following His timeline is so difficult for me, but it is the one that works!

My hubby was out of town too this past week. Our seven year old has had such a difficult time with his absence. We rely on our Daddy so much. He is our hero around here.

I did get the items finished for the auction and I LOVE the new elephant I made. It is made of a soft, fine purple suede, a floral flannel and 'teeshirt' material for his inner ears. He is super cute and I hope he does well for our school!

I am having so much fun making these elephants! Everywhere we go, everyone says how soft and beautiful these elephants are. What a fun little hobby!

I know I had mentioned earlier in the Lent season of sharing ideas to enhance our lives at this time of year. The truth is, I have been so busy clearing clutter from our lives, a very 'Lent' like activity, that I haven't had time to share with you yet. Hopefully this week, I can get a few ideas out here. Well, back to my 'normal' life I go! Love, Emily
